Frequently asked questions
Is acupuncture safe?
Serious complications are rare when acupuncture is provided by a trained, registered practitioner using sterile, single-use needles. Minor bruising, soreness or tiredness can happen.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel little discomfort: a brief pinch or a dull, heavy sensation. Tell Frank if anything is uncomfortable.
How does acupuncture work?
Research suggests acupuncture stimulates nerves, which influences how the brain and spinal cord process pain, and affects the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals. Traditional Chinese Medicine describes it in terms of restoring balance. Both views shape how Frank plans treatment.
What can acupuncture help with?
The research is strongest for some chronic pain conditions and for preventing headaches and migraines. Evidence for other uses is mixed or still developing.
How many sessions will I need?
Many people try a short course of about 4–6 sessions and review progress. If you aren’t seeing meaningful change, we will talk about whether to continue or whether another provider would help more.
How much does it cost?
First visit $140 (60 minutes), follow-up $100 (45 minutes). The meet and greet is free.
Do you direct bill?
Yes: Alberta Blue Cross, Sun Life and GreenShield directly, and many other insurers such as Canada Life and Manulife through TELUS Health eClaims. Please check your coverage before your visit.
Does Alberta Health Care cover acupuncture?
No. Acupuncture is usually covered through extended health benefits instead.
Do I need a referral?
No, although some insurance plans ask for one before they reimburse.
When are you open?
By appointment on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 5:30–9 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 9 am–5 pm.
How do I book?
Online through our booking page, or call 780-435-5115. Herbal consultations are booked by phone.
